This was the book used in my level Spanish courses this year. I thought the historical information at the beginning of each chapter was interesting but I would have preferred something a little more conversationally based.

Because of the historical focus, a lot of the vocabulary isn't really applicable to everyday life however if I ever get the black plague I will know exactly how to explain my symptoms in Spanish. I had to use this Spanish textbook all year in the level Spanish sequence at my school. I hated it. It's the worst Spanish book I've ever had to use. The entire course was taught based off of this book, and I feel as though I learned almost nothing. It's all based off of Spanish history which is interesting, but irrelevant for second year students who literally just learned how to order food in Spanish and talk about their favorite colors and what they did last summer.

I guess now I know how I had to use this Spanish textbook all year in the level Spanish sequence at my school. I guess now I know how to talk about the Black Plague, but that seems like an unlikely conversation topic to just pop out of nowhere.
